G2 Esports unveil 2022 jersey with predictably insane music video

Late last year, G2 Esports founder Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez made clear his intentions for 2022: “Now is the time for us to take over. We are going to kill him.

It’s only seven days in the year, and the brash and brash team is already making their mark. Combining their video expertise with music, G2 launched their own label to release their first song, in a massive effort to launch the team’s all-new gaming jersey, created in partnership with Adidas.

The epic power-metal track “Our Way,” which “recognizes the lessons of defeat as much as it celebrates every victory,” predictably features Rodriguez himself, but he has some massive help at his disposal. Metal fixtures include:

  • Deathcore / djent guitarist Jason richardson (All that remains, Chelsea Grin, Born Of Osiris);
  • finnish singer Noora Louhimo (Beast of battle);
  • Drummer Luc Holland (Falling Upside Down, Tyler Carter, The Word Alive);
  • Violinist and specialist in playing music covers Taylor davis; and
  • Cellist Tina Guo (produced by Hans Zimmer for Dune, and Cyberpunk 2077).

Rodriguez can tell he wants to kill him in 2022, but luckily and unsurprisingly, he and his top team aren’t murdering the song – it’s actually pretty good.

“Epic power metal is my favorite genre,” Rodriguez explained. “I don’t care about its market value. It comes from the heart like everything we do.

“20G2 is our year. This song is his hymn.

Despite the team’s generally arrogant attitude, the song itself turns out to be quite introspective, reflecting a difficult 2021 year for the team, in which they failed to qualify for the League of Legends Worlds for the first time in six years of history.

The lyrics include “Like the embers of the flames we will rise again, until the last one we will fight forever” and “We take flight in the flames, now hear the call of our redemption… we rise, we must remain, always as one, be united.

The music video for “Our Way,” which launches the official G2 Esports Pro Kit jersey for 2022, sees Rodriguez opening a portal with a shard-made sword influenced by the design of the jersey. Sami, the G2 Esports mascot unveiled in July 2021, also makes an appearance in the video – a character who appears as an Easter egg on the jersey, in the hologram.

A number of G2 players including Rasmus “Caps” Winther, Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik, Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Zainab “zAAz” Turkie also feature in the video wearing the new jersey, as they are hunted down by a “shadow demon” after stealing an ancient artifact.

“We are the number one esports organization in the world,” Rodriguez concluded. “Now we are setting the stage for entertaining everyone beyond competitive video games. It’s the start of a crazy and fun race.

G2’s “Our Way” is now available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Pandora and Deezer, while it will also be available on rhythm-based games such as the VR hit Beat Saber. Meanwhile, the jersey is now available for purchase online; The Adidas G2 Pro Kit will expand to a full tracksuit and fan jersey, which will be available in the coming weeks.
