You may know Nanoleaf as the company that wants to light up your life with smart lighting panels, but the Toronto-based company is also hoping to help streamline your entire smart home experience. At CES 2018, Nanoleaf unveiled a new kind of universal remote and other lighting products, all aimed at transforming “your space not only into a smarter home, but also more fun, intuitive and simple”.
The Nanoleaf Remote is a Bluetooth enabled remote that Nanoleaf says will allow you to control just about any connected device in your wallet. The Apple HomeKit compatible 12-sided remote would give users “full control over all HomeKit products”, allowing you to set a different scene with each side of the remote via the Nanoleaf app. That said, a 12-sided remote can seem a bit confusing, and you’ll have a hard time remembering which scene you assigned to which face of the geometric object.
“Smart technology must respond to the way people use their products, making life easier and more enjoyable without being intrusive,” said Gimmy Chu, CEO of Nanoleaf. “The Nanoleaf remote control is designed to make the smart home smart again. We want to give people the ability to control their smart home without always relying on their devices. Everyone is so glued to their phones these days, the Nanoleaf remote provides the ability to just sit back and enjoy a smarter life.
The company also unveiled Nanoleaf Light Panels, a modular lighting system that syncs with music. These triangular LED panels are intended to play alongside the Nanoleaf Rhythm music visualizer, combining light with sound. Each light panel is designed to react to music in a unique way, but you can also customize these visualizers using the Nanoleaf app by selecting various color and animation selections.
You can look into these smart home devices if you want to throw the party of the year in 2018. A full panel and visualizer starter pack will set you back $ 230. The remote does not yet have a price, but will launch in February 2018.
