Opening of the Privi Art Gallery in Stonecrest – On Common Ground

STONECREST, GA – Privi Art Gallery, East Metro Atlanta’s premier art gallery, kicks off in celebration of Juneteenth on Sunday, June 19 at 1 p.m. The inaugural exhibition: ARTcestry: Building a Legacy Under Struggle explores the shocking and inspiring journey that many minorities face as they search for their lineage and the legacy left to the next generation through artistic and photographic expression.

The opening exhibition will highlight the works of six contemporary artists, including Kevin Cole, a mixed media artist and art teacher whose work questions the relationships between color, music and art; abstract artist Zerric Clinton who uses a variety of forms to highlight symbolism and incorporate themes of social issues, culture and history; Multidisciplinary artist and New Orleans native Sean Haynes, visual arts teacher in the Fulton County school system, whose art is a representation of the human condition and the human spirit; Reginald Laurent a self-taught artist who merges his urban upbringing and the geometric shapes of his childhood into his work.; Anthony Loadholt, 25-year veteran art teacher, accomplished sculptor with numerous art exhibitions and sculpture installations; and Derrick Phillips, Jr., who brings the stories of past heroes to life and documents their labors and successes as a reminder of the human bricks that built America today.

The gallery, located at Stonecrest Mall, is part of recently announced redevelopment plans by Stonecrest Resorts to transform the former Sears building into a lifestyle resort called Privi.

The exhibition will run from June 19 to July 31, 2022, with a private exhibition preview event on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. live music. At the launch event on Sunday, June 19, artists will be available to discuss their work and an introductory symposium on cryptocurrency and NFT art will take place from 3-4:30 p.m.

“Our flagship exhibition, ARTcestry, is a harbinger of the future we expect from Stonecrest. Just as the awe-inspiring work of our six artists tells a story, our efforts to reinvent this community are grounded in a web of real estate and community building,” says gallery founder and real estate developer Vaughn Irons. “Our exhibitions will rotate, with each cycle, we will create direct access to artists, we will provide an educational platform that exposes our patrons to the art world and does not leave them to fend for themselves.”

The gallery’s curator is Nicole Maurice, a former international art dealer specializing in African antiques and a senior art specialist for a Fortune 500 retailer. to honor our ancestors and support our community unwaveringly and fearlessly despite the struggles of oppression still felt today,” Maurice said. “Through pain and seemingly insurmountable odds, our beat continues to beat, and under this struggle we continue to build a legacy, we continue to thrive, we continue to learn, and we continue to love.”

The exhibition will be open to the public on weekends from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery is located at 8020 Mall Parkway in the Privi Building, next to SeaQuest. The entrance to the gallery is located in the parking lot of the 1C shopping center.
