Rakkatak – Char Taal and a Rainbow Raga (Rakkatak, 2021)

The album “Char Taal and a Raga Rainbow” features the wonderful work of Canadian world fusion band Rakkatak. The Toronto-based ensemble includes musicians from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities, who play a captivating mix of Indian rhythms, melodies and instruments combined with Peruvian cajón, drums and electric bass.

In addition to Indian music, Rakkatak also offers charming versions of the timeless South American song Gracias a la Vida by Violeta Parra and “Uninvited” by Alanis Morissette.

Rakkatak understands Anita Katakar on table; Oriana Barbato electric bass, acoustic guitar, shakers; Pratik Rao singing; and Zaynab Wilson on cajón, vocals, drums.

Guests: Rex Van der Spuy on the sitar; Hasheel on bansuri (flute); Jessica Hana Deutsch on the violin; Valentina Harper on vocals; and Ernesto Espinoza on the violin.
