RPO presents Gershwin and music inspired by Latin America


Geneva Concerts brings the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra to the Smith Opera House in Geneva, 82 rue Seneca, on Friday March 4and at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature the RPO and internationally acclaimed pianist Xiayin Wang performing Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F Major and the RPO performing three pieces inspired by the music and sounds of Latin America.

Xiayin Wang has performed worldwide, at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, South America, Europe and Asia. The New York Times praised his “estimable mastery of piano color and his ability to sustain and illuminate a bit of melody in the thickest of textures.” She has released numerous recordings described as “tremendous” and “the model of sophistication”.

The RPO will be led by a guest conductor François López-Ferrer, who has extensive experience in Europe, the United States and Latin America. It will offer the works of Alberto Ginastera Four Estancia Dancesmusic inspired by rural Argentina, Gershwin’s Cuban openingreflecting the sounds and rhythms of Havana, and Gabriela Lena Frank Leyendas: Andean ride, which blends classical and folk Andean musical traditions.

Masks are recommended but not required and there will be a section at the left rear of the theater where social distancing can be maintained; proof of vaccination will no longer be required.

Adult and senior tickets are $30, full time University students $10, children up to the 12th year are free.
