- Nintendo and Illumination are working on a joint venture to produce a movie starring Mario Bros. and other Mushroom Kingdom characters.
- The film ended up being delayed from its original December 2022 date to April 2023.
- A trailer for the film is set to premiere October 6, 2022 at New York Comic Con.
The movie Super Mario Bros. sparked a lot of curiosity since it was announced during a Nintendo Direct, and even more confusion once the film’s cast was announced. With voiceovers from Chris Pratt for Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Anya Tailor-Joy as Princess Peach, fans aren’t sure what to expect.
The film was billed as a collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination, the animation studio behind the Despicable Me and The secret life of pets. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, seems particularly invested in the film’s production, being Nintendo’s spokesperson for the film whenever there was something to share, such as the film’s postponement from Holiday 2022 to Spring 2023.
Interested fans won’t have to wait much longer, as the movie’s trailer release date was recently announced.

Set to premiere at New York Comic Con 2022, moviegoers will just have to wait two weeks until October 6 to see Mario Bros. in action. It is unclear whether this feature film is planned to incorporate 3D animation, live action segments, or a combination of the two. Super Mario and Friends is an IP classic that many are still fond of today, regardless of age. Given Illumination’s track record, however, it’s safe to say that Nintendo’s prized mascot is in good hands.
