The artistry of “Fire Emblem” meets the theatricality of rhythm game in “Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE”

Nintendo has announced a new game called Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE in his March 3 Nintendo Direct.

Described as a “deep RPG” for JRPG fans and developed by Atlus, the game has a poppy feel and the appealing fire emblem artistic style. Watch the trailer for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE below:

“A sinister force from another dimension has invaded modern Tokyo, bringing a fantastical barrage of style, fashion, music and, of course, danger. So play with your forces in high-energy turn-based battles , then merge items to craft powerful weapons and crush your enemies,” Nintendo said in a press release. “Round every corner, you’ll find fan service, including fire emblem references – original songs from Japanese entertainment giant Avex, entertainment industry-themed dungeons, and catchy musical performances.

The game features in-game music and ads as well as new tracks from Avex, the company that backs some of Japan’s biggest pop stars. While I’m crossing my fingers for intense rhythm gameplay elements added to your typical JRPG experience, the musical elements don’t seem to affect the turn-based gameplay.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE will be released with the original Japanese voiceovers intact, using English subtitles rather than the English audio. After all the fury Fire Emblem Fates without the double audio of Fire Emblem Awakening, it just seems right.

If the trailer reminds you a lot of Persona 4: Dance All Night , well, that’s by design. While the IP address is based on both fire emblem and the Personage series, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is a brand new game that combines elements of both to create something original and funky.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (yes, those are the initials backwards for Shin Megami Tensei the Japanese name of Personage ) will be coming to the United States for Wii U on June 24.
