Often times I judge an anime by the quality of its openness, so if I think “Hmmm, yeah, that bangs”, as the characters hover in the sky and swing swords at the clouds, then I know I’ll love it. . And after playing the Arcade Mix demo for Unbeatable, an upcoming rhythm game where you make your way through positively slamming songs, I think I’m in love.
Unbeatable is currently running a Kickstarter campaign, although it was funded after only 3pm. I was immediately wowed by its sleek anime aesthetic, and if you’re curious to see what that looks like, there’s an Arcade Mix. demo available now that lets you go through a few tracks – it’s a really good time.
Unbeatable’s Arcade Mix demo doesn’t have any story content, but it does have a handful of tracks to walk through. The controls are pretty straightforward: just D and F to hit those low and high beats, but I was mightily impressed with the satisfaction of chopping them up and spinning them all. It really captured that feeling of being in a furious battle as opposed to just timing your keys.
It also made me want to explore the elegant cityscape of Imbattable and its pretty countryside corners. Apparently music is illegal in this world, and you are committing crimes? I’m in. I also can’t tell you how much I need the full OST, it’s a pain that won’t go away.
Fortunately, there is no longer to wait for my next dose of firecrackers. D-Cell Games developers plan to release more substantial White Label demo on Steam on Saturday, which promises a side story and more tracks. Plus, every week during the duration of Unbeatable’s crowdfunding campaign (April 6 – May 7), it will be updated with new stories and leads for you to discover.
You can follow the progress of Unbeatable at Kickstarter.
